The Ducati Desmosedici has been racing in the Moto GP since 2002. In fact in 2004 the machine created a new record at 348 km/h, so that since the 2005 season it has been regarded as a competitive machine. The change to a different tyre manufacture in particular gave rise to vacillating results. In 2005 Loris Capiross, by then in his 16th world championship, ended the season with a total of 156 points and ranked six in the overall standings.
