In the protracted fighting in Vietnam, with constant threats from guerilla attacks springing from any direction, GIs developed their heavily armed “gun trucks”. These gun trucks protected vulnerable convoys, and offered increased protection and firepower for their occupants. This tradition lives on in Iraq. With threats from small-arms fire, RPGs and IEDs, American troops resorted to the expedient of adding armor to many of their vehicles. Dragon’s newest M998 “Gun Truck” is precisely one such vehicle. The basic HMMWV has had steel plates added around the rear cargo compartment, while an M60 machine gun with armored shield has been mounted in the cargo bed. Item 60261 features an L/70 Late Production variant fighting in Germany in 1945 in the final months of WWII. There are several things that make this particular 1/72 scale model stand out from its peers. The most obvious is the stunning paint scheme – it consists of a white winter whitewash broken up with mottled sand color patches. This vehicle also has a new style of exhaust muffler characteristic of a Late Production derivative, plus a complete set of Schurzen side skirts is installed. The pre-assembled model is tastefully and realistically weathered. The other thing of particular interest to collectors is that this vehicle is being produced in strictly limited quantities. he Jagdpanzer IV L/70 was a modified version of the original tank hunter, being based on the Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H or J tank chassis. It was fitted with a 75mm PaK 42 L/70 gun without a muzzle brake and a solitary MG42. The main gun could traverse 12˚ to the left and right and it had an elevation of -7˚ to +15˚. Dragon Armor has released this next Jagdpanzer IV L/70 Late Production version, representing a vehicle from an unidentified unit. It is adorned in a three-tone camouflage scheme consisting of bold stripes and is tastefully weathered, as demonstrated by the lifelike look of the tracks. The 1/72 scale model is fitted with a full set of side skirts and has the late style of exhaust muffler. Collectors will want to be cognizant of the fact that, like the previous model, this is a strictly limited edition. A new Jagdtiger model has been announced in the Dragon Armor range, it portrays a Henschel Production version, though this time with a different three-colour camouflage scheme. This version has the anti-mine coating Zimmerit applied and has a crane installed on the roof, a device used to raise the roof plate to allow maintenance of the interior. With it's 12.8cm PAK44 L/55 gun, it was a formidable opponent on the battlefield. It is uncertain what unit this vehicle belongs to even though there were only two schwere Panzerjager Abteilung Jagdtiger units ever formed. It is known that this tank destroyer saw combat in Austria in 1945. Only 77 of these behemoths were produced between July 1944 and March 1945 but fortunately this model is much more widely available! | |

The division landed at Utah Beach on 11 July 1944, and combat operations began on the 17th. It was used as an exploitation force for Operation Cobra, the U.S. breakout from Normandy. In August 1944 it swung south to take Nantes, thus cutting off the Brittany Peninsular. As WWII drew to an irrevocable end in 1945, Germany’s panzer forces were scraping the barrel in terms of the armoured vehicles it could field. One such example is the Tiger I represented in Dragon Armor’s latest release. It portrays a hybrid Tiger, an early version retrofitted with steel wheels. It belonged to Feldwebel Beloff and was part of the ad-hoc Tiger-Gruppe Fehrmann formation formed in the spring of 1945. This Tiger was actually blown up by its crew on 11 April 1945 as Russian forces closed in on it. Tiger-Gruppe Fehrmann was a hotchpotch of Tiger tanks collected together in Fallingbostel. To give some semblance of regularity the unit’s mix of tanks was painted in an unusual slate gray colour, with green and brown patches of their older camouflage schemes still poking through. This 1/72 scale Tiger tank from Dragon Armor perfectly captures the look of such a late-war vehicle, particularly in its unique paint scheme. The Panzer Lehr Division was an elite German armored unit in WWII, with its formation taking place in 1943. The Panzer Lehr Division was in position to counter the Normandy invasion in June 1944, and in early July it resisted the U.S. 83rd Infantry Division in the Bocage country around St. Lô. When the Americans launched Operation Cobra on 25 July behind a bombardment of 2000 bombers, Panzer Lehr found itself directly in the firing line. It suffered heavy casualties and was unable to halt the American onslaught. Reproduced in 1/72 scale, Item No. 60316 represents a Sherman of the 20th Armoured Infantry Battalion, which was a unit of the 10th Armoured Division. Also known as the “Tiger Division”, this armoured division served under General George S. Patton. It fought in the Allied offensive that swept into Germany, with the division ending the war in Innsbruck after driving into the famed “Redoubt”. The HVSS suspension system is complete and accurate and the turret features the 105mm howitzer which was used for close support missions. All the tactical and national markings of the original tank are fully replicated. Wearing the typical olive drab paint scheme of the day, the finish has been enhanced by clever use of dry brushing. more.. | |

he latest item from Dragon Armor offers collectors a novel twist – it shows a Sherman Firefly undergoing treatment at the paint shop! The Firefly, a British adaptation of the Sherman that mounted a 17pdr gun, was the only British tank in WWII that could hope for some kind of parity with heavier German tanks. However, when it came to mechanical reliability and industrial capacity, the Allies were more than a match for the Third Reich. As the war wore on and Germany’s industrial might could no longer keep pace in terms of tank production, captured Russian and Allied tanks were sometimes put into German service as a matter of desperation or expediency. 60319 is a Firefly Vc and includes a scale German figure brushing new markings onto the captured tank, the tank has had a series of white crosses, plus 'G' and 'W' painted on as an early form of identification Friend or Foe! more.. | |

Dragon Armor has issued a superb 1/72 scale model of one of the LSSAH Division’s armoured vehicles. It is an Sd.Kfz. 251/10 halftrack, this particular Ausf.C variant coming from the first major production series, though it was more complex to build compared to the subsequent Ausf.D. The 251/10 was issued to platoon commanders and featured a 3.7cm PaK 36 cannon useful for giving a light antitank capability. In this fine new model, the fully detailed antitank gun is carefully fitted with its low-profile shield onto the halftrack. The open-topped model has a full interior, while its exterior has received an interesting two-colour camouflage scheme of yellow sand applied over its original gray. This pattern was ideal for concealment in the grassy steppes of the Kursk area as it carried forward its complement of panzergrenadiers pressing home their attack. This is a robust yet finely detailed model and the fitting of the 3.7cm PaK gives it that little bit extra firepower in any model collection. | |

The new collectors’ item includes an accurately depicted MK-154 MICLIC (Mine Clearance Line Charge) system mounted atop the AAV. Firing up to three rocket-projected explosive line charges into a minefield, the MK-154 system can produce a safe lane up to 16m wide and 100m long. This self-contained electric and hydraulic mine-clearing equipment is ideal for beach assaults and was deployed in OIF during the initial invasion. This particular model lacks nothing! Now, Dragon Armor have announced a fully assembled M3A2 fitted with an ERA kit. Each of the reactive tiles is fully represented to give the Bradley its unique look and it is painted in a sand-coloured camouflage scheme to represent a vehicle serving in Iraq. Various details such as the headlights have been picked out in their correct colours. The sophisticated TOW launcher on the left side of the turret is displayed in the ready-to-fire position. The U.S. Army’s M2/M3 Bradley family is one of the world’s most famous infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) and it has successfully participated in such operations as Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Perhaps not quite so well known is the M6 Linebacker variant of the Bradley. The M6 is an air-defense vehicle found in heavy armoured divisions and it mounts four FIM-92A Stinger missiles in the launcher unit on the left of the turret instead of the two TOW missiles in a regular Bradley. The Linebacker system employs a FAAD (Forward Area Air Defense) C3I suite that allows firing while stationary or on the move. Ten spare Stinger missiles are carried inside the vehicle. The 29.9-ton M6 still retains the standard turret armament of an M242 25mm Bushmaster cannon and 7.62mm M240C coaxial machine gun but the easiest recognition feature remains the turret-mounted missile launcher unit. | |
